I recently got an invitation to the private Beta of Fire Eagle which is a new project from Yahoo! Research Berkeley.
In short, Fire Eagle is a location broker. It allows you to update or provide your location via a number of applications. It’s been covered on quite a few other blogs so I won’t go to much in to it here.
At the moment, I have ZoneTag running no my N95 (which I normally use to geotag photos and upload them to Flickr) that periodically updates Fire Eagle via GPS. I’ve also linked up my Plazes and Dopplr accounts. There’s some other cool appliactions around or in development but these are the ones that interest me for now.
There’s still quite a lot for me to explore with Fire Eagle but as I find new applications and updates I will post an update. I think it’s a pretty exciting development and I’m getting really interested in the whole geoblogging and location aware buzz that’s around. Anything that allows me to track my location and associate blogs, photos or anything else with my location is pretty good.
Watch this space.
